For the past four years, I have been the Executive of an organization in NYC. Fortunately, I work for an organization that does care about the Executive and has not hesitated in demonstrating care or support. This is often not the case at other organizations or for other Executives.
Through many insightful conversations, what I have learned is that at the end of the day there is one simple premise of many – organizations care about the functionality of the operations and not necessary the Executive. This means clients are served, staff are compensated, vendors are paid, funders are pleased and trustees are informed. There is often no concern for the Executive and Who Cares?
Should organizations care only about the operations and not the Executive?
Is this an Executive “price of leadership”?
